26 April – 3 May 2014 : MOVEMENT AND STILLNESS – a workshop facilitated by Judi Ledward
Most people I know live their lives at speed. They are always running from one activity to another, and they don’t stop unless they become ill. More likely, they become ill when they do stop, usually on a well-needed holiday. Others I know find it hard to motivate themselves to do what they want to do or what needs to be done. They “just don’t have the energy” or forget what it was that seemed so important an hour ago. They may go to work and hold down a job but don’t commit to satisfying pursuits outside work and spend a lot of time alone.
Both groups of people are usually plugged into the World Wide Web, but not so much into themselves.
Both action and inaction can be ways of avoiding your felt experience. When was the last time you knew you were hungry or thirsty or tired, and ate, drank or rested in response?
Along with a disconnection from our bodies, we may also disconnect from our thoughts, feelings or desires. We may get hooked on repetitive thinking or emotion that interrupts our sleep. We may never feel a sense of satisfaction or contentment, really relaxed or simply happy. We don’t know what to do or there’s always something more to do.
On this course we will experiment with ways to reconnect to ourselves, to get a sense of our experience both inside us and to the world, to find our natural rhythms and to honour them. We will connect to our body, mind and higher self through movement and stillness. We will discover the obstacles we have created, consciously or outside our awareness, to living fully in the present moment. We will learn ways to be expressive of the thoughts, feelings and desires that we avoid, that we bury in our bodies, our busy-ness, our passivity.
Using movement, meditation, creative expression and small and large group exercises, we will create the ground for a more satisfying and mindful connection to ourselves. Using the creativity of the group process we can explore and dissolve old patterns that hold us back from a balanced life of doing and being.

Judi also runs a personal and spiritual development group which meets twice a year for one week at a time. We meet once in Wales, at a beautiful holistic centre within Snowdonia National Park, and once at a charming hotel in southern Spain. The group comprises of 12 people, with a balance of men and women. People attend the group to do more intensive personal work/ as a spiritual retreat, away from everyday distractions. As a development group, members get to know one another well, and offer support and challenge. There is ample time for walking, reflection and resting during both weeks.
